This course explores the integration of yoga philosophy into occupational therapy practice, providing a holistic framework to enhance both client outcomes and practitioner well-being. Participants will delve into the eight limbs of yoga and their applications for promoting health, wellness, and prevention for the mind-body-spirt. The course emphasizes techniques such as meditation, breathwork, and ethical practices to support clients’ physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being while also fostering the practitioner’s self-care and resilience. By bridging ancient wisdom with modern therapeutic approaches, attendees will gain tools to empower clients with beneficial outcomes that enhance occupational performance and meaningful and purposeful lives.

Learning Objectives:
     1. Understand the foundational principles of yoga philosophy and the eight limbs of yoga as outlined in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
     2. Analyze the relevance of yoga philosophy to occupational therapy, with a focus on promoting holistic well-being.
     3. Apply techniques from yoga, such as meditation, breathwork, and explore simple postural practices, to enhance therapeutic interventions.
     4. Understand how yogic ethical principles (yamas and niyamas) relate to client-centered care and professional practice.
     5. Review three research studies to identify how yoga philosophy can support diverse client populations to achieve balance, function, and meaningful engagement in daily life.
